The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBFW) is the largest fashion week show in the world, with over 80 established and up and coming designers debuting their 2010/2011 fall and winter looks. Among them some of the world's most renowned designers and labels include Marc by Marc Jacobs, Max Azria, Michael Kors, DKNY, Ralph Lauren, Oscar De La Renta, Zac Posen, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang and BCBGMAXAZRIA. Others include Isaac Mizrahi, Diane Von Furstenberg, Custo Barcelona, Charlotte Ronson, Nicole Miller, Elie Tahari and Diesel Black Gold.
On the runway this year, the fall and winter collections of 2010/2011 are inspired by the current hard economic times. Women's fashion consisting mainly of hues of gray, black, camel and forest colors give reference to Hitchcock's female heroines embracing the 40's austerity and elegance. Hang on to the skinny pants, cozy cardigans and over the knee boots, those are still in next winter. Break out the studded belts, jackets and purses with embellished hardware you bought in 2009/2010 because the warrior-like aesthetic isn't over just yet.
Men's fashion in the upcoming fall and winter of 2010/2011 is a trend that would make any man feel like "the man". The 19th century era of crime bosses and gansters lend inspiration to 3-piece suits, sepia tones with antiqued neutrals, black, brown and gray hues. The trench coat gets a makeover when leather is added to it. The warrior theme is prevalent in leather jackets with studs and torn jeans. With a sign of the times, a revolutionary inspired trend spawns cut-away jackets, conductor pants with suspenders, work shirts, chunky knits, and bowler hat.
Over 100,000 store buyers, editors, models, designers and organizers are expected to attend this year's fashion week. Fashion is New York's second largest industry behind finance. The city is headquarters to over 800 fashion companies, doubling that of Paris. Fashion Week generates approximately $773 million in economic activity and supplies over 175,000.
