The Sound of Style

The 2010 OC Music Awards

The Sound of StyleMusic and fashion have always gone hand-in-hand, inspiring and influencing unique styles and fashion trends. Emerging from the sun-struck district of Orange County are some great musicians and fashion icons, such as The Shys and Gwen Stefani. This Saturday, March 6, 2010, the OC Music Awards will bring together local artists and give them the opportunity to be recognized for their musical success.

The Sound of StyleThe award show will showcase performers from various genres, such as hip hop, metal, and alternative, while honoring nominees in categories that include Best Live Band, Lifetime Achievement, and the People's Choice. It is expected that the nominees, as well as other event attendees, will dress their part and inspire style in their own musically inspired way.

Judging from last year's OC Music Awards, this year's attendees will likely sport chic styles that represent their music background. Some trends worn by performers in previous years range from torn tights and classic stripped t-shirts to skinny jeans and electric tank tops.

The Sound of Style The big night is quickly approaching, and we here at STYLE TRIBE are excited to attend the OC Music Awards and report back to you our experiences of great music and fashion. We will be focusing on "Red Carpet" looks, performers and music goers. You too can be a part of this cultural event. Tickets are available to the public for $25 plus fees. Visit www.ocmusicawards.com for more information.

Meet Stylist Leslie Christen of LIFESTYLING

A Fashion Consulting Expert

Meet Stylist Leslie Christen of LIFESTYLINGLocal fashion stylist Leslie Christen is not a new face to the fashion industry. As seen last week, she styled our segment titled, "Delphine's Wearing." Pictured here are some of her favorite garments from g. marie boutique. Having studied Fashion and Costume Design at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and spent several years working as a stylist and costumer in fashion and entertainment industries, Christen has become an expert personal shopper, wardrobe renovator and image consultant.

STYLE TRIBE decided to find out a little more about Ms. Christen...

ST: What fashion finds do you wish to see on the red carpet at the OC Music Awards this Saturday?
LC: I love the current trends of Warrior, Futuristic and Sci-fi, as well as the soft and feminine mixture of see through fabrics and lace. I love that musicians push the envelope on fashion, as an artist, you not only project your creativity in your music and lyrics but also in how you dress. There is a lot more room to take risks and have fun with fashion.

Meet Stylist Leslie Christen of LIFESTYLING ST: What is your #1 tip for all Stylistas preparing for this event?
LC: Don't try to be a character you are not, dress like yourself to fit your personality. We can see fake from a mile away.

ST: How does music inspire your personal fashion and they way you style?
LC: I LOVE music and it plays into every aspect of my life whether it is the classical music playing on my newborn's mobile, my husband's punk rock band or what's blaring in my car from my latest downloads. Every day I am moved, motivated and inspired by music!

ST: How would you describe "Orange County" style?
LC: Orange County Style is definitely laid back. I grew up in Laguna Beach where all we wore were bathing suits and rainbow sandals. It was kind of difficult having a love for fashion way back then, it wasn't the norm to dress up. But, the style has changed a lot over the years and Orange County is really starting to become a mecca for fashion.

ST: What is your favorite part about being a stylist?
LC: The fact that I get to live out my passion every day. I love what I do and it never gets old.

Be sure to visit Leslie Christen Lifestyling and her Facebook page to keep up with her latest fashion finds and tips!
