A Fashion Pioneer

The fashion world stood in shock last Thursday after discovering that Alexander McQueen had taken his own life. McQueen, a successful pioneer in the fashion industry, was known for his innovative designs that were both dramatic and red-carpet ready. Being a master tailor, McQueen created pieces that were recognized on current A-List celebrities, such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

McQueen recently debut his Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection titled, "Plato's Atlantis." The models were dressed in a variety of reptile-patterned dresses and extraordinary hooflike shoes along with gravity defying updo's. According to McQueen, this collection was meant to depict "the future ecological meltdown of the world: Humankind is made up of creatures that evolved from the sea, and we may be heading back to an underwater future as the ice cap dissolves" (Source).

A long time lover of McQueen's garments is Lady Gaga. More recently, she wore pieces from "Plato's Atlantis" in her recently debuted "Bad Romance" music video. She wore the ten-inch, other worldly stilettos, along with dazzling eye-catching dresses. Regardless of how difficult it may have been to maneuver in the stunning shoes and well-tailored dresses, the pop queen pulled it all off with great eas. Although McQueen cannot grace the runway with his presence, he will forever influence the fashion scene with his virtuoso collections and his unbounded views towards the potential of fashion.
